Only on Nebula™, do viewers get an unprecedented vantage point to observe the genesis and development of a real band, and also directly participate in the group’s formation.

Scouring the entire United States to find new talent, Nebula™ taps into the resources (songwriters, drummers, bassists, guitarists, keyboardists and vocalists) currently underserved by the typical singer/dancer oriented talent vehicles, who long to be part of a working band. After a simplified online registration process, the contestants’ virtual auditions will be judged by audiences at home! Then a rigorous screening process involving both ordinary viewers - and a panel of industry professionals will together determine the winning participants. The ongoing dramatic hook unfolds each episode as our hopeful stars compete to join the band, build their skills, overcome fears and learn to slay together!

Nebula™ seeks to discover, cultivate, and promote emerging musical talent under the guiding ideal that the most successful groups will always be greater than the sum of their parts. Following that philosophy, the project focuses on the active creation of bands -- introducing the proper elements to spark that ever-elusive chemistry and ignite a reaction to rattle the charts. Too often, talented musicians fail to meet like-minded and equally-skilled peers for reasons of geography or dumb luck. At essence, Nebula™ supplies the ‘helping hand’ once left to fate through which guitarists could find their rhythm section - or songwriters gain their voice.

band

Although the first season will concern itself with the traditional pop/rock combo, the Nebula™ model is seamlessly adaptable to different genres -  including (but not limited to) hip-hop, electronica, country, metal, roots, and world music. Given the incredible diversity of modern markets and style-mashing trends, the project strives from the outset to appeal to the widest possible demographic in clear acknowledgement of the wide-ranging tastes of current entertainment consumers.

By syncing with social media empowered voting, viewers forge their own emotional investment and buy into each episodes’ underlying nuts-and-bolts decisions that can literally make or break a young band! With the nascent group’s direction quite literally “in their hands”, the audience has little choice but to examine intra-band dynamics and select a participant that seems like the best possible fit. This process presents to the audience an enormous potential for ongoing interest - and continued support of the project above and beyond the personal cachet of an individual talent!

Stage 2: Main Competition

phone shot

This is the central component of Nebula™ programming.

Presented as a weekly series, the “Main Competition" is designed to generate a 5 piece band!

Filling the drummer’s throne will be first, the bassist will be chosen second, guitarist will be third, the vocalists fourth, and the fifth and final member selected will be a wildcard.

The candidates for each position will compete against one another through a process of elimination (a three-episode cycle for each position) that narrows down the entrants thusly:

  • Drummers (6>1)

  • Bassists (6>1)

  • Guitarists (6>1)

  • Vocalists (6>1)

  • Wildcard (6>1)

According to the Nebula™ structure, the group shall take shape from the ground upwards, as each winner takes his place with the slowly assembling band. In this manner, the musicians are allowed space to mingle organically - and the choice of subsequent players MUST take into account their suitability in relation to existing members! By series end, the individuals will have meshed into a tight combo who've mastered an original repertoire of songs, and a fanbase which has grown up around the band, will be eagerly awaiting the opportunity to download their debut release - available for purchase during the final episode of the season.

It all starts with the Drummers and Episode One kicks it off...with 6 drummers giving their all for music stardom at
"EastWest Studios" - one of the world’s premier recording facilities!

Voting

The 30 contestants selected during the online auditions phase will be judged upon five separate criteria:

  • Professionalism
  • Musicianship
  • Chemistry
  • Presence
  • Feel

Under the simplified Nebula™ system, candidates will receive a mark (either Great, Good, Average or Poor) for each of the five assessments from a pair of noted Industry Professionals as well as an aggregate of the public’s response. After all of the votes have been counted - the entrant to earn the highest score in a given position, will be deemed the winner.

Once the initial winners have been selected during the online auditions, the main competition will begin with six drummers competing in a prominent recording studio, guided by legendary recording talent. In episodes 1 through 3, the 6 drummers chosen during the online auditions will perform songs with the aid of a backing band, and, in accordance with the judgment of professionals and the public, the number of applicants for the position will be winnowed to four (for the 2nd program) and then two (for the third) before the winner is crowned.

Thereafter, the newly enshrined drummer will act as the band’s anchor and perform with the next group of contestants: the bassists. This process will be repeated through a total of fifteen episodes until an entire band has been selected.

This completes the band generation segment of the series. The resulting band will be rehearsed by renowned music industry veterans (providing copious B-Roll footage) before the climactic recording sessions & season finale.

Season Finale

Upon the successful culmination of recording sessions for the band's first release, the band plays a record-release show -- with their debut immediately available for purchase through the Nebula™ site and other online outlets -- and begin their nationwide tour!
